The United States Space Force (USSF) Headquarters (HQ) at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia is searching for a Chief, Engineering and Facilities (NH-0801-04, GS 14/15 equivalent).

Description:

Do you know how to manage multiple projects in a complex environment? For the first time in over 75 years, a new Military Service was created-the US Space Force. Be at the center of the Space Force universe, in the Pentagon, working in a fast-paced and high visibility position involved in the planning, programming and execution of engineering requirements and facility management for the United States Space Force Headquarters. Identify and develop strategic and creative solutions to enable the Headquarters staff to accomplish their mission.

The ideal candidate will possess a background in engineering, facility operations and project management. Best qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree in engineering or an architecture degree.

Expert knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, and organizational structure of the Department of Defense is highly desired. Ability to plan and manage the execution of multiple engineering projects that involve planning, design, construction, interfacing with stakeholders, and tracking progress to completion. Expert communication skills and the ability to prepare and present high level briefings or program updates to senior leaders and manage a team of highly skilled contractors. Proficient with information applications, as well as facility management-related applications. Skill in problem solving, managing a budget, and supervising contractors or government personnel by providing leadership and direction.

Key Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of the theories, concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, and materials of multidisciplinary professional engineering to effectively apply engineering theories, principles, and concepts to areas of responsibility.
  2. Knowledge of the principles of planning, program management, standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures.
  3. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization.
  4. Ability to research, evaluate, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures to a variety of situations and to recommend timely and economical solutions.
  5. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain approval to access the portfolio of Special Access Programs required to perform daily duties.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
  • May be required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
  • A professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution or a closely related field is required.
  • Incentives may be authorized.
